JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – LIMPOPO sides Baroka FC and Polokwane City will be looking to improve from their horrendous outings in the previous edition if they are to make an impression in the fourth installment of the Multichoice Diski Challenge.
The competition, which is the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL’s) reserve league, kicks off this weekend with Baroka hosting Bidvest Wits at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium and Polokwane away to Cape Town City at NY 49 Gugulethu Stadium on Saturday.
Kickoff is 10h00 and 12h00 respectively.
Last season, both Limpopo teams finished 14th and 15th in the 16-team log.
Baroka registered a pathetic two wins and had the worst defence, which shipped in 46 goals.
Their cross-town rivals only garnered three wins.
With both teams recently knocked out of the MTN 8 and having gone a fortnight without a game due to the World Cup qualifiers, there is high possibility the sides will field their first team players so as to maintain their momentum into the new PSL season.
Between the two teams, the spotlight will be more on Baroka following the appointment of the legendary Doctor Khumalo as technical director.
He is among the country’s most prominent football icons in the country.
Accepting his appointment Khumalo emphasised the development of young players at Bakgaga.
“The most important thing is working on the development. We need to dig out the talent,” Khumalo told media upon his appointment.
